The European Innovation Council (EIC), a component of the EU research and innovation programme Horizon Europe, will allocate EUR 1.4 billion next year to support European deep tech research and high-potential start-ups. With a budget of €1.4 billion, the new programme introduces several updated funding schemes, enhanced support for deep-tech startups, and important changes aimed at reinforcing Europe's technological independence.

The EIC work programme 2025 details the funding in four main schemes: EIC Pathfinder (€262 million) for multi-disciplinary research teams to undertake visionary research with the potential to lead to technology breakthroughs (grants up to €4 million).; EIC Transition (€98 million) to turn research results into innovation opportunities, following up on results generated by EIC Pathfinder.
